MOSEL
Even more so than the Rheinpfalz, this is an area that we had no intention of getting involved in. It is probably the area that most people have heard of - Piesporter and Bernkasteler have been household names in every restaurant, off-licence and supermarket for years. On the other hand, the Mosel - like the Rheinpfalz - also contains some of the most prestigious wine estates in Germany, most of which are already well represented here in the UK. However, our mind was changed yet again as a result of a request from a customer, which led us to the Weingut "Hubertushof", home of father and son Hubert and Hubertus Clüsserath in Trittenheim. Virtually all of their wines come from the two best sites there: the Trittenheimer Apotheke and Altärchen; and almost all their wines are classic Rieslings, many of them now being made in the new drier styles. He's also now making delicious, light Spätburgunder as well.
